Something for Everyone
Each host site offers a wide variety of FREE activities including:
• Social and recreational events
• Supportive educational & artistic workshops
• Opportunities for families & individuals to network informally
• Information and referral services
• Outreach to rural communities
• Access to community service providers and programs
• Resource Library materials
These programs serve to meet our goal of strengthening family life thereby preventing family violence, child and elder abuse and neglect.
While many recurring events are offered on a regular basis, site coordinators strive to meet the needs of the community by creating programs based upon input from participants and an advisory board.
Working families who find it challenging to plan events with their children have taken advantage of the social and recreational events. Parent Support Groups, Infant/ Toddler Playgroups, and Parenting Workshops give parents the skills needed to do their job better. In turn, respite activities give parents a much needed break from care giving.
Individuals of all ages take advantage of wellness retreats, workshops that celebrate the arts, and other activities designed to meet their needs.
Older adults enjoy the monthly activities and intergenerational programs intended to decrease social isolation and gain access to community service providers.
The youth and teenage population enjoy Family Center programs through collaboration with the school districts, 4-H clubs, Boy & Girl Scouts, the Mentoring Program, and the local Boys & Girls Club.
Financial Supporters
The Children’s Hospital-Child Abuse Prevention Fund, Door County Memorial Hospital-Ministry Health Care, Door County Memorial Hospital-Ministry Health Care, United Way of Door County and the Fred J. Peterson and Carla & Ellsworth Peterson Charitable Foundations provide financial support necessary to provide this community service.
Businesses, volunteers and individuals within the community also donate time, talents, and finances to ensure the continuation of Family Centers of Door County. Lastly, success would not be evident without the in- kind support from the host sites that the 5 Family Centers operate within; Door County YMCA, HELP of Door County, Northern Door Children’s Center, or the Washington Island Recreation Center.
